Darselect - Early Season

General - Darselect

 

  • The fruit has a very good, sweet taste with a strong, traditional, aromatic fragrance

 

  • Darselect is a vigorous, well balanced strawberry variety with an erect habit and dark green foliage

 

  • Fruits are large with good shape giving a high percentage of Class 1 fruit

 

  • The stalk is easily broken, which helps for quick picking thus reducing harvesting costs

 

  • Darselect flesh is light red and firm, with a strong brick red skin

 

  • The strawberries store well if required and do not darken in store

 

  • Moderately tolerant to Crown Rot and Verticillium Wilt

 

Use and Growing Advice

Darselect can be grown in the open field in a Pick Your Own situation, under plastic tunnels for supermarkets or planted in substrate in a greenhouse environment.General - Darselect 2

  • Darselect can be planted either as fresh plant during autumn or as a cold store plant during May/June

 

  • Avoid large quantities of nitrate fertilisers as this can make the plant very vegetative

 

  • Treat early in the season against mildew on foliage.  Similar susceptibility to Mildew as Elsanta

 

  • While the fruit is growing, the addition of magnesium oxide will help improve the glossiness of fruit

 

  • Harvest when the fruit is ripe, that is when the skin is brick red.  Harvest staggered every 4-5 days on average

 

Frozen strawberry plants are available February - late July
Fresh strawberry plants are available September - January
